Eight mechanical engineering students received a $1,000 outstanding teamwork award Tuesday from the Saturn Corporation for a solar vehicle project.
The students have been researching and designing a solar powered vehicle since September. Currently the model of the vehicle is still on paper.
Peter Gumulak, Institute of Technology junior, said they appreciate the money from Saturn but need a lot more -- about $200,000 -- to be able to construct the actual vehicle.
He said they also received about $1,000 from the Mechanical Engineering Department and the IT Student Board.
``All of us are pretty fired up about the project. It is a very interesting engineering project,'' Gumulak said. ``We are IT geeks and get into this stuff.'' The students involved in the project are Gumulak, Grant Bomgaars, Jonathan Flachman, William Frauly, Matt Kirkwood, Kristine Korbel, Jason Peterson and Brad Schultz.
