Display Day and Awards

Today was a reasonably relaxed day, compared to the previous week. All of the team's cars were put on display out in front of the Plano Center in Plano, Texas; the location that the race is starting from tomorrow morning. Lots of interested people dropped by and talked to us, which we enjoyed, as we always love showing off our hard work.

At the dinner tonight, awards were given out.

Of the five awards given, the team earned three of them: Fastest figure-8, fastest lap, and the best prepared team. Red River College earned the braking award, and Michigan earned the pole position.

Nick Simon was our fast driver for the figure-8, and Adem Rudin managed to pull a 2:14 lap to grab the fastest lap away from Iowa State. We consider earning the "best prepared" award to be by far the most prestigious; it was a team effort through and through, and it took a lot of blood, sweat, and sleepless nights to be the first team through scrutineering (some officials claim that we are the first team in the history of NASC to complete scrutineering in one day!).

In other news, Oregon State and Illinois will be allowed to compete in the event on a provisional basis, even though they did not complete the required number of qualifying laps. Both teams must complete the first stage to Neosho in the required amount of time, and a time penalty will be assessed based on their average speed for the stage an how many laps were left uncompleted. We're happy to hear this, as both teams are comprised of great people, and they've put a lot of work into their cars. We wish the best of luck to these two teams.

We start out on the road bright and early at 9:01am tomorrow, a minute behind Michigan, on a route taking us through McAlester, OK on the way to Neosho, MO. We can't wait to get out there!
